Singers and instrumentalists leading the parish in sung prayer. Whether you're seasoned or just starting, there's a place for your voice.
St. Augustine is often quoted as saying, "He who sings prays twice." Whether or not he actually said it, the Church has always believed it. Music isn't decoration for the liturgy. It's part of the liturgy, a way of praying that engages the whole person.
The Music Ministry at St. John the Evangelist includes vocalists, cantors, and instrumentalists who lead the parish in sung prayer at Mass and other liturgical celebrations. Some are trained musicians. Some are enthusiastic amateurs. What unites them is a desire to serve God and the community through music.
If you've ever thought about joining the choir but talked yourself out of it (too busy, too untrained, too nervous), consider this your nudge. Rehearsals are where you learn. The community is welcoming. And the act of singing together, week after week, forms you in ways that surprise you.
Music ministry is service, but it's also worship. You're not performing for an audience. You're leading prayer. And in the process, you're praying yourself.
Fill out the interest form on the parish website. If you're under 18, have a parent contact Me-Gan Vu directly at [email protected]. Me-Gan can tell you about the different groups, rehearsal schedules, and where you might fit best.
